When it comes to marketing, some people are wonderful at it and some people can’t figure it out. What I’ve learned about marketing is it’s something that you are in constant learn mode. Things change daily and to be on top of your marketing game, you have to keep up. You can’t keep doing the same thing and expecting amazing results when you haven’t been getting amazing results.
Here are three tips I’d like to offer when it comes to marketing.
- You need to know who you are marketing to.
I get so many clients who come to me angry because their friends and family aren’t supporting them. They assumed their first sales would come from them and they’d get all these referrals and life would be wonderful. NOT – as the commercial says, that’s not how it works.
If your family and friends support you, count that as a special blessing because your friends and family are not your target market most times.
Assignment: Take a few days and figure out who your target market is. Create a profile for them.
What do they look like?
How old are they?
What type of money do they make?
What are the looking for in a product?
How often will they buy it?
Knowing your target market helps you sell to this person. Don’t beat yourself up if you have a few issues with this assignment. It might take a few trials before you figure out your perfect profile.
TeeJ Mercer said you want to work with that person who makes you pop your collar when you work with them. You’re excited to work with them.
Who makes you pop your collar?
- You need to know where to find your market.
A lot of people get on social media because that’s what everyone else is doing.
Why are you on social media?
Why do you pick the platforms you are on?
Is your target market on these platforms?
Are you engaging with them or just talking to your friends and family?
Check out who you are engaging with on a daily basis. If you are not talking to new people daily, it’s time to rethink your social media strategies.
- Do you have a plan for your marketing?
I know I was guilty of not having a plan when I first started SORMAG. I was everywhere, doing everything. I didn’t have a clue. Over the years, I learned how important having a marketing plan was for me and my business. I needed to know why I was everywhere and what I was doing while I was there.
A plan will help you see what you need to do with your marketing and it will help you see what isn’t working for you.
Assignment: Sit down and create a marketing plan for your business. Then put it to action.
I hope you find these tips helpful. Remember marketing is something you can learn. Make time to market your business and to learn about marketing and you will be successful.
