Promotion is hard.
A lot of people don’t talk about how hard promotion can be because they don’t want to seem like they can’t do it.
I lot of people don’t realize that you are not born a promoter, it’s a learned skilled. Not talking about how hard promotion can be and not asking for help will make you do some crazy things.
Promotion takes commitment, consistency and creativity.
Yesterday an author decided to use a little creativity to boost her book sales. I don’t know if she boosted her book sales but it did have the whole Facebook literary community talking.
One marketing person said she thought this was a genius idea because everybody was talking about it. Good or bad every other post was about this promotion.
What I’ve learned about promotion is that it can be hard if you don’t have plan.
When you don’t have a strategic plan to get your books in front of readers you do drastic things like announcing on your FB page that you’ve died.
I really hope this wasn’t on her promotion plan, just a creative idea that popped in her head to see if she could garner a few sells.
All I can say is a got me thinking about promotion and how we can make it a little easier for ourselves. My hope is that other writers don’t decide tomorrow they’re going to announce their deaths to see if they can make big sales because that’s not how it works.
Promotion begins with a plan.
You need goals
You need to know who are your readers and where to find them.
You need to be consistent in marketing your books or you products.
Yes, is hard but the results are so worth the work. If you stick to your plans you will see results. You will see a difference in your readership. You will see sales.
I wrote Building Online Relationships – One Reader At A Time because I wanted to help the writers who are have a tough time with their promotion. I wanted to give them some ideas to help them create a plan to be consistent with their promotion.
