Home   Promotion   Who Is Your Audience?

I always preach to know your audience, because when release a book we automatically assume, our friends and family will purchase a copy.  Then our feelings are hurt when they don’t.

I will use me as an example.  I promote authors.  I’ve met a whole bunch of them, so you would naturally assume when I published a book about promotion that I would sell one copy to every author I ever met.

I would have loved for that to happen, but I also understood my audience.  Most of the authors I’ve promoted or have a relationship with, are rocking their promotion.  They don’t need my book.  Most of the 10,000 plus in my social media followers, don’t need my book either.

If I came out thinking I was going to sell at least 10,000 books, I would still be crying.  I knew up front who my book was for.

New authors

Authors looking for fresh ideas

Business owners new to online promotion.

I had to market to them.  If one of my friends or family member bought I book, I said thank you but I know they probably would not use the book.  I wanted to find those who would needed the book.

Who needs your book?

This is something you seriously need to ask yourself and study daily because if you are counting on your family and friends to buy your books, you might be sorely disappointed.

One question I ask my clients, is who is going to buy it after all your friends and family buy it?  You want your book to continue to sell.  That’s why you must find your audience.

Again, who needs your book?
