I’m two episodes away from completing my second season of Love In Space.
I want to share a few things I’ve learned this past year.
A writing schedule helps so much.
I’ve spent years writing when I felt like it. That didn’t work for episodic books. I wanted to publish one episode a week, but I didn’t factor in my fears taking over me. Some days I would sit with fear on the couch and get nothing done and then I was scrambling trying to come up with something. Now I’m working on my schedule. Three day and it needs to be on its way to my editor.
Create a schedule that works for you.
The readers will come
This past year I spent a lot of time sad because the readers weren’t coming as I wanted. It put a lot of fear back in my head. I had to have weekly virtual tea sessions with myself to remind me what I tell my clients. The readers will come, keep writing.
It takes time to build a readership, it’s not going to happen overnight. Stay patient, write the books and promote, promote, promote.
Treasure the readers who are reading
Sometimes we get caught up who isn’t reading that we don’t focus on those who are reading. Last year I was blessed with a reader who contacted me and shared her experiences with reading the book. Her words filled my heart to know that someone was enjoying the story and got what I wrote.
May we all be blessed with many more readers who enjoy our stories.
Believe in me and my writing
Man, this is so hard some days. I want to run on those days when I see zero reads on my dashboard. Where are those readers? Does my book suck? Why am I’m torturing myself like this? Then I read over what I wrote, and it doesn’t suck. Believe in your work LaShaunda. Keep writing LaShaunda.
I encourage you to believe in yourself and keep writing.
Enjoy the process
I’ve found my love of writing again on this Kindle Vella journey. I sort of lost it a few years ago when I was doing book submissions. Now I enjoy finding out what my characters will do. I love brainstorming new scenes and all the world building it takes for this book. I’m looking forward to seeing how the singles on the USS Obama find their soulmates.
Enjoy the process it will make your journey so much easier.
I’ve learned so much on this journey and I will share more as I go. I believe that as an author we should be open to learning the craft, the business and staying consistent with writing because it can only make us a better writer.
