For the month of April let’s talk about using your email list for book promotion. I’m currently working on bring my Kindle Vella books to print and I know my email list will be a big part of that plan. I will be sharing my journey with you and hopefully offering tips for you to start using your email list more for book promotion.
If you don’t have an email list. Here are a few things you can do:
- Offer valuable incentives like free short stories, chapters, or exclusive content.
- Create sign-up opportunities on your website, blog, and social media profiles.
- Collect emails at in-person events and book signings.
- Consider using lead magnets related to your book’s genre or topic.
I’ve created a few freebies to sign up for my email list. I will warn you it can be a slow process, so be ready to invest in months to years to build it. One reader at a time.

1. Build a Relationship First
Before asking for a sale, you need to build trust. I’ve learned over the years that its better to send out a weekly or monthly newsletter vs a once a quarter or yearly email. You want to stay in front of your readers. Not have them forget they signed up for your email list.
Here are a few things you can do:
- Send regular updates: Share behind-the-scenes looks, character sneak peeks, book covers, and more.
- Be relatable: Let them into your writing journey, your highs and lows.
- Add value: Offer reading recommendations, freebies, or writing tips (if your audience includes writers).
Action Steps to Build a Relationship First
Step 1: Create a Welcome Email Series (3–5 emails)
