One of the hardest things I’ve ever done was go Natural.  I tried it two times.  The first time I felt like a mop.  I wasn’t feeling the twists and I didn’t really know how to take care of my hair, so I gave up on it.

A few years later, I had no choice but to go natural because the eczema decided to take over my scalp and refuse to let a perm stay in my head.   I couldn’t take the burning and sores on my scalp any longer.

This time I had the internet and many other women embracing their natural hair.  I found ways to maintain my hair and I learned to love my hair again.

I will admit these 10 years have been a wild adventure.  Every wash day I want to cut it off all.  When I receive a compliment asking me who does my hair, I know the long hours twisting it was worth it.

This curly girl loves her curly hair.

My advice to you as you start this journey, is don’t give up.

So many people start this journey and give up after a month or two.  You honestly need to invest at least a year to see a difference.  You might have hair that grows quickly or very slow.  You can’t determine this in a few months.

You are relearning your hair.  If you didn’t get a perm as a child, try to revisit those hair memories.  Were they good or bad?  Did you dread the wash day or was it a pleasant experience?

Find a style you like and ROCK it.  I found that I feel like a queen with my twists outs and puffs, so those are my signature styles.  They work for me.  Find what works for you.

As I said my first time going natural I didn’t feel beautiful because I hadn’t found a style that made me feel that way.  Finding a style takes time, but it’s worth the journey.

Going natural is an adventure.

How is your adventure so far?
