During the furlough it made me revisit my why of why I continue to work a full time job. When you’ve been at a job over 20+ years you get a little frustrated. I’ve had those days. This 30+ days furlough really had me frustrated. I wanted to call it quits and go do my heart’s desire.
When we returned to work, the first week was hard, because I honestly didn’t want to be there. I had a million things I wanted to do and being there wasn’t one of them.
I seriously had to return to my why.
My Why
My job provides for my family. Money, Insurance and stability.
Retirement – Once I hit 20+ years I realized I wanted to see the end of my government career and receive my retirement.
Gives me the ability to work my dream because it’s a 9-5 job and I’m not on call or have to work the weekends. My evenings are mine to do as I please.
I think it would be lovely to quit and go do my dream, but I know that I need an exit plan. I can’t just call it quits. I need to be able to provide for my family.
I still want to see my retirement, which means four more years. Instead of griping about those four years, I will be working on my exit plan, so when I do retire, I’m able to go after my dreams and provide for my family.
Sometimes you need to revisit your why. It will help you decide which paths you want to take for your future.
If you don’t have a why for what you do, sit down and list them. They really help with keeping you on the right path of following your dreams.
What’s your why?
