Last night I wrote three chapters. It’s been a while since new manuscript content has come to me. It was really exciting. This month’s goal is to finish revising my manuscript. It was supposed to be done and gone to a beta reader this month but half way through I got stuck. My timeline was off, my editor wanted me to cut a character’s POV – Point Of View and I didn’t know what to do. My mind continued to work on it while I did other things.
I attended a summit and one of the classes was how to write a romance. I thought it would be a refresher course and help me move forward in my story. The course showed me I wasn’t writing romance.
How could that be? I’d been writing romance for years. It was my third POV. Most romances stick to two POVs. My characters weren’t following the basics of a romance- boy meets girl, they break up and try to find their way back. I didn’t have that type of conflict. What the heck was I writing?
Thank goodness for my writing friends. W Parks Brigham gave me a short lesson. I was writing Women’s Fiction with romantic elements. I ran to Google and did a little research and sure enough that’s what I was writing and guess who got unstuck?
Sunday I sat down and worked on my timeline and figured out what I needed to do to get it back on track. I’m back baby ready to finish this revision. I’ve sat on the couch with fear long enough. It’s time to move forward and kick fear out the door.
One of the things I teach my clients is to know who your book is for because you will have a hard time selling it. I’m thankful I figured out what my genre is now instead of after it was published. That would have really been a hot mess.
How is your writing during this quarantine?
Are you having issues with figuring out what you are writing?
