I published my first romance – Love In Space – Click To Read

I hit the submit button Thursday night on my first Kindle Vella romance.  Then I had to wait and wait.  I received an email saying it was live, but it wasn’t really live.  I made the mistake and submitted on Thursday.  I don’t recommend doing that because Friday is a busy day and it might slow down the upload.

This morning I woke up and it was online but missing the cover image.  UGGG!

My digital book mentor, Sylvia Hubbard said share it anyway. I got up the courage and shared it on my Facebook page and in the Feed Your Dream Clubhouse room.  

Now the real waiting begins.  Who will stop by and read the episodes posted?

I’m writing this book as I go.  I’m excited to see where my characters take me.  I’m looking forward to the readers feedback as I post episodes.  My plan is to upload a new episode every Sunday.

I’ve had a few people ask me about Kindle Vella, so I’m going to use this post to share a few things I learned.

WRITERS:

Before you choose to publish on this platform.  Do your research.  Learn as much as you can about this platform.  It’s new so the rules are being made as you go.

• Visit the platform and check out the books listed there.  Read a few so you get a feel of what the platform is about.

• Kindle Vella is episodes not chapters.  If you think like a soap opera, you’ll get the concept.  If you think as a chapter, it can be overwhelming if you see 140 episodes.

• You have the choice to upload a whole book or write as you go.

• It’s a new platform so it’s building its readership.  Your books are helping it grow its readership.  

• You are responsible for building your readership. Amazon isn’t bringing the readers to you.  You are bringing the readers to Kindle Vella.

• Join Kindle Vella groups and learn from those writing the books on the platform.

•  Create a promotion plan and work it.

• Know your audience.  Will they read episodes?  If not, then start building a new audience.

• Have fun on your new adventure.

Readers

Before you say no to Kindle Vella, I ask you to try it out first before you commit to your no.  It’s like reading on your phone or tablet. An ebook you pay for as you read it.

• I think of it like bite size snacks.  If you have a busy lifestyle, the Kindle Vella book is great for you.  You can read one or two episodes and get back to your life.

• Do you play games on your phone or tablet and pay for tokens?  It’s the same concepts.  You need tokens to buy more episodes.

• It’s a great way to try different genres.  The platform has ever genre you can think of.

• It’s interactive because you can follow a story.  Give it a thumbs up if you enjoyed the story. You also get one Fave to pick your favorite story each week.  The stories with the most Faves, is added to the top 250 stories each week.  The faves mean a lot to the authors visibility on the platform. If you really enjoy a story, give them a fave.

• I think the best part about this as a reader you can help the author write the story with your feedback.  The authors love to hear from you.  

• Word of mouth is powerful for Kindle Vella books.  It helps bring more readers to the platform so they learn about the different books there.
