I know social media is the place to be, but if you are not capturing your readers, you are reinventing the wheel every time you release a book.
Social media is for finding new readers. You should be able to get in touch with your loyal readers – your mailing list is for that.
If social media shuts down tomorrow would you be able to contact your readers?
My story: I started SORMAG without a mailing list. Back then mailing lists was just getting popular. My first year online I had 16,000 visitors to the site. I can’t tell you one name or how to get in touch with them.
Yes having a home base (website/blog) is good, but if you don’t know who your visitors are and you have no way of inviting them back, you are defeating the main purpose of promoting – building your readership.
This is why I push the mailing list so much because 16,000 is a lot of readers that I have no way of contacting.
Don’t sleep on your mailing list. Make time to create one. Contact me if you want me to walk you through. It’s the best hour you will ever use.
