The first issue of Building Your Readership introduced you to building your infrastructure. The following issues will be taking each component of the infrastructure and helping you build it.
EMAIL LIST
For me this is your number one tool when it comes to your book promotion. I don’t recommend you promote without one. Part of your promotion strategy is to meet new readers.
Why do you need an email list?
You can get in front of your readers anytime you want.
The subscribers want to hear from you.
You can stay connected with your readers.
You control the content they see from you.
You can see who buys from you and who doesn’t.
The data you gain is priceless.
If you are meeting readers daily and have no way to capture these readers, you are promoting to the wind. Make sure you create an email list on a system that is user friendly to you and keep it up to date.
I always recommend to my clients to write down what they want in an email list manager so they can check them off when they do their research.
Here are a few things to check for:
* Cost: Consider the pricing structure and compare it to your budget.
* Customer Support: Ensure good customer support for troubleshooting and assistance.
* Data Migration: Check if it supports easy data migration from your current system.
* User-Friendliness: Ensure it’s easy to work with.
* Integration: Check if it can integrate with your existing tools (e.g., calendars, CRM, project management).
* Unlimited emails: daily emails add up if there are limits.
* Security: Verify strong security measures, including encryption and spam/phishing protection.
* Scalability: Ensure it can handle your current and future email volume.
* Search and Organization: Look for robust search and filtering options to find emails quickly.
* Mobile Accessibility: Confirm compatibility with mobile devices for on-the-go access.
* Customization: Check if it allows customization of folders, labels, and rules.
* Collaboration Features: Evaluate features like shared inboxes and collaboration tools.
* Automation: Assess the ability to automate repetitive tasks and set up email rules.
* Analytics and Reporting: See if it offers insights into email performance and usage.
* Compliance: Confirm it complies with relevant data privacy and regulatory requirements.
* Backup and Recovery: Assess backup and recovery options for data protection.
