Building Your Readership Newsletter – Issue 15 – Promotion Stages -#4 Ongoing Promotion

Ongoing promotion is probably the hardest part about promoting after the release of the book because most authors are focused on writing the next book. We are told the next book sales more books.  Some authors take this to heart and tell themselves they don’t have time to promote.  They stop promoting and begin to see a decrease in book sales.

As you write your next book you have to determine how much promotion you will be doing while you’re writing the book.

What do you think is consistent when it comes to book promotion?

This is probably one of the top questions I get from authors during our virtual tea book promotion strategy sessions.  I’m honest and I say our consistency will probably never be the same. I’m an everyday girl. I believe in promoting every day.   That schedule works for me. It might not work for you.  I tell my client to find what works for you. Here are a few questions to get you started to decide which schedule works for you.

Do you want to be a weekend promoter? You promote Friday, Saturday, and Sunday because those are the times you have available to promote.

Do you want to be three times a week promoter?

Do you want to be a once-a-day promoter?

Do you want to be an everyday promoter like me?

There is no right or wrong way to schedule your promotion.  Choose one that fits your schedule.

For me my royalty check is my motivation to determine how often I need to promote. Look at your royalty checks. If your royalty checks say the numbers, you are satisfied with your promotion is working for you. Keep doing what you are doing.  If your check needs a little help like mine, you might want to up your book promotion game and revisit your book promotion schedule.

LaShaunda’s Book Promotion Schedule For Consistency

I teach my clients to change their mindset about book promotion.  Book promotion all about being consistent.  You choose how consistent you want to be.  My way of being consistent is the using the fifteen minutes a day method.  Fifteen minutes doesn’t feel like a like of time, but if you work it right you can do a lot in fifteen minutes.

For myself, I do fifteen-minute increments.  Fifteen in the morning.  Fifteen at lunch time and fifteen in the evening.  Most times I go over the fifteen minutes but it’s a good starting point for me.  When I find myself with promotion overwhelm, I will return to my promotion schedule comfort zone – Fifteen minutes.  This schedule has helped me a lot over the years as full-time employee and part-time author.

What To Share To Stay Consistent?

When it comes to ongoing promotion.  I like to work with evergreen content.  This is content you create once and you can use it over and over again for promotion.

Evergreen Content:

Book Marketing Graphics

Interviews – (podcasts, radio, tv or print)

Articles – (virtual or print)

Videos

Audios

Blog posts

Social media posts

I always tell my clients to check their content first.  You’ll be surprised by what you have that is still relevant and you can share again on rotation. You don’t need a lot of content to start a rotation.  If you have 30 pieces of content, you can schedule content for thirty days and put it on rotation for three months. Use scheduling tools to get your promotion scheduled so you stay in front of the readers, and you can focus on your writing.

What to do to reach new readers?

I believe building your readership is all about meeting new readers.  I’ve found most authors are caught up with writing books, they forget about meeting new readers.

My question for you will always be how are you meeting new readers?  If you aren’t doing anything on social media, I hope you are meeting readers at events.

I always recommend to attend virtual and live events because events are how you meet new readers. Remember if you are in front of them, they’re talking to you, getting to know you and your book and hopefully they are buying a copy of the book.

You need readers to sustain the book sales.  On going book promotion is all about meeting new readers. Below are some actions steps you cand use to keep up your ongoing promotion.

What are you doing to stay consistent with your ongoing promotion?

Ongoing Promotion Action Steps

1. Consistent Social Media Engagement:

Maintain an active presence on social media platforms by posting updates, behind-the-scenes content, reader testimonials, and interactive polls or Q&A sessions. Engage with your audience by responding to comments, sharing content, and fostering a sense of community among your followers.

2. Encourage and Solicit Reviews:

Continue to solicit reviews from readers and encourage them to share their thoughts on platforms like Amazon, Goodreads, and book blogs.

3. Author Events and Book Signings:

Continue to participate in author events, book signings, and literary festivals to connect with readers in person and promote your book. Explore both virtual and in-person opportunities, and collaborate with bookstores, libraries, and literary organizations to reach a diverse audience of book lovers. Offer signed copies of your book and engage attendees with readings, discussions, and interactive activities.

Look for partners whose audience demographics align with your target readership, and explore creative ways to add value and generate excitement for your book.
