Building Your Readership Newsletter – Issue #22 Engaging Your Readers Consistently

I was listening to a morning author’s chat and four authors shared how often they posted on Instagram.

First Author – Four to Five Times A Day

Second Author – Once A Day

Third Author – Once A Week

Fourth Author – Once A month

Which one is correct?

All of them are correct because they are engaging with their readers consistently. Each one has chosen the consistency that works for them.

Why Consistent Engagement Matters?

Social media is all about being engaged. Some authors miss this because they are on all platforms and eventually, they overwhelm themselves with posting everywhere.

If you are consistent with your engagement, you will see your readers engaging with you because they are looking for you when they open their social media. They follow you so they could hear from you. If you aren’t being consistent, they go looking for the author who is.

Planning For Consistency

Create a social media content calendar. It will help you with your engagement across all your platforms.

Your calendar helps you stay organized and ensures that you are not missing any opportunities to connect with your readers.

If your calendar on automation, then it will help you experience promotion overwhelm. You can use your social media schedulers. We talked about this in issue 21.

Types Of Engagement

Social Media Posts

Weekly or daily posts to your audience. Pick three topics to create content on. (Book-related content, interactive questions, your favorite television show).

Newsletters

Send regular newsletter weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly. This keeps your readers informed of what’s going on with you and your books.

Live Events

Go live and do question and answering sessions, webinars, to create consistent engagement with your readers. For your readers to feel comfortable with you to ask you questions. Your goal is to make them  feel like they are getting to know you. Live are great for instant engagement.

Maintaining Two-Way Communication

Respond to comments. Reply to messages. Send out emails. Encourage discussions with your readers and participate with them in groups.

You can create polls or surveys to get feedback from your readers.

You always want to make sure you’re getting input from your readers. Make them feel like they are on this writing journey with you.
