9. Interviews – Where can you be interviewed for you book – Podcasts, Radio, Television, Online Magazines, and Videos.

I’m a huge fan of interviews. Mainly because I published an online magazine – Shades Of Romance for 20 years. I think interviews are an important part of your book promotion infrastructure.

  • You are borrowing other people’s audience. Which means you get in front of your audience quickly.
  • Interviews are what I call evergreen content. If you have a link, you can share that link forever.

Most authors don’t realize they can pitch themselves to magazines, radio shows, tv shows etc. They are usually waiting on someone to invite them.

I say don’t wait on the ask. Start with your dream interviews.

  • Which blogs would you want to be featured on?
  • Which magazines would you like to be featured in?
  • Which podcasts would you like featured on?
  • Which radio shows would you like to be on?
  • Which television shows would you like be on?

Pitching yourself for interviews takes a lot of research. I don’t recommend pitching to someone who has a large audience, unless the audience is interested in what you write. You always want to make sure you are getting in front of the right audience.

What Should You Look For?

Do they have your audience?

Are their interviews archived?

Have you read their previous interviews?

Have you listened to their interviews?

Are you a good fit for their interviews?

How often do they do interviews?

Do they have guidelines for pitching them?

Is Your Pitch Ready?

Do you have the host/editors name?

Do you have the correct email?

Do they have a schedule for interviews?

Why should you be interviewed by them?

Is your bio/headshot/links ready?

Is your blurb/link/book cover ready?

Before you start submitting for interviews, create a submission database or use a calendar/planner to use for managing your submissions.

I like to submit 1-3 pitches a week. My goal is to have one or two interviews a month.

Now you are ready to start pitching and building your interview bank.

  1. something is wrong with this post. When you click on it, #9 does not appear, #10 post appears. Then when you click on #10 post, #10 post appears again. Can you please look at this and get the correct blog post #9 up? I’m really enjoying your posts, especially as a brand-new children’s book author, I value the advice you are giving.

  2. Thanks Denise, I corrected the link.
